“Never define yourself by your relationship, status, your income or your looks. It’s your generosity, kindness and compassion that count.” ~ Brigitte Nicole
I have experienced a lot of struggles in my life since I was a kid. I thought that I have learned all the lessons from those struggles and difficulties that I faced but I was wrong. As I grew up, the more pain and hardship I have encountered and for every pain it leaves a scar in my heart. Those scars made me from where I am now. And I am very grateful that I have incredible experiences in life from being nothing, having some material things and money then by being broke and by having money again, by being in love and being heart broken.

When I worked as an Overseas Filipino Worker in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, the more I learned that life is not really easy. For the first few years of working as an OFW, I was very hesitant in mingling and socializing with the other people. It is because I experienced to be discriminated especially with some of my compatriot. I’ve been hurt, thus, I avoided those people who think highly of themselves. But when I met a very great person and shared some of his teachings and philosophy my personal views in life changed into 360 degrees.
Here are the things that I have learned from the greatest person I’ve met in my life:
1. Always balance your decision with your logic and your emotion. This is the first lesson that really touched my life; it changed my personality especially in dealing with my colleagues. We are all human beings, we tend to decide based on our emotions, and when we do that we don’t we tend to have a bad decision or vice versa. Thus, if we balance our decision with our reasoning or logic plus our emotions, it will absolutely give you an impact that will positively affect you and the people around you.
2. Be humble. I know that it is very difficult to be humble especially in our society now a day. Admit it or not, we always want to compete with other people it is because our environment encourages competition and individuality. I remember the song by MAC DAVIS,” It’s hard to be humble…when you’re perfect in every way.”
But I have witnessed it from a very great person that humility is an important virtue. He has all the right to be proud, his status in life, he has everything, money, power and fame and yet he is very humble in every way. I have learned to be humble and it really develops a more enjoyable relationship with others.
3. Communicate. Being intelligent is not enough. You have to communicate or reciprocate. In communicating, you have to express yourself clearly, speak yourself with candor but with respect. I have learned that when communicating always includes your emotion whether it is verbal or written communication. With my previous experience, I do communicate but in a very direct manner. And it made me like a very proud person and sometimes people think that I am rude. Also, most of the time I offended other people, the way I speak and response to them. And I am very grateful that I have learned the art of communicating with emotion. It really helped me a lot and it made the people around me to appreciate me more especially my colleagues.
With all those points I have mentioned, I applied it in my life and in just a few months I earned the reward. It worked on me, thus, it will also work on you. Don’t try it, DO IT! Miracle doesn’t happen by just sitting; you have to work and put action to make it happen.
